DECIBEL (1999)
Julian Bonequi started as a progressive free jazz-rock drummer and improviser in the early 90's, getting involved with the legendary - rock in opposition - Mexican band Decibel in 1999 (featured musician in the CD boxsets "Dossier: 1977-2017" {on Disc 4 "In Concert Plus… 1999 [Live at Ex-Teresa Museum]" Cleopatra Recs Los Angeles 2020 and "Fiat Lux" {MIO Records Israel 2003}), and sharing lineup with international bands as Magma, Le Orme & John Wetton (King Crimson), among others.
He also recorded as a session musician with many prestigious Mexican musicians and bands, some of them released by Musea 'Le Classiques Du Futur' in France.Playing the drums in 1999 with Decibel.
RESISTENCE! FORO ALICIA (1997)
"One of my first collected flyers, sharing the lineup with the legendary RIO/Avant-prog bands OXOMAXOMA and "THE MUSIC OF ERICH ZANN" (w/Carlos Alvarado. RIP), performing with one of the bands I had with the great Victor Méndez (Oxomaxoma), on late 90's before I became a guest member of one of the first experimental 70's bands of Mexico, aka Decibel. Decibel was formed in 1974, the year I was born."
"In 1993, while studying Philosophy at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, I had improvised with objects, voice, and drums on my own. Still, it was not until 1997 that I began performing with musicians and legends such as saxophonist and multi-instrumentist Germán Bringas (Jazzorca Records), among many other great free jazz and improv in Mexico." Three decades later, Bonequi's contributions include more than 200 releases and compilations, blending his career as a creator with production and curatorial practices supporting and disseminating experimental music, including hundreds of musicians from all over the world as the founder of Audition Records (2010-2021)."If you visit Audition's website, all the projects have been curated by Julian Bonequi, including the archiving and web.
Audition Records was a communitarian/curatorial experiment hosted and produced by Bonequi from to 2010 to 2021.
2023: Over the last decade, Julian Bonequi has been refocused on his solo works as a composer and interactive/sound designer for installations and live performances. His interests blend sonic healing R&D, breathwork, and deep listening, reflecting on the mysteries of body architecture, reality perception, and hybrid interactive planetary computation interfaces yet to be discovered.
